How Children View God

How Children View God December 18, 2019

Fred Rogers tells the story of a little girl who was drawing a picture in a class at school. Her teacher came and asked her— ‘What is that a picture of?’ The girl confidently replied— ‘It’s a picture of God.’ The teacher, somewhat startled, said ‘But no one knows what God looks like.’ The little girl retorted— “Well they will now!’

Jesus said, ‘unless you turn and become as a child, you shall not enter the Kingdom of God’. In this season when we celebrate his birth and infancy, this is well worth pondering. If you lose your sense of openness and child-like wonder and ability to imagine something glorious, especially in this season, you’ve lost a lot. If you are jaded and jaundiced at this time of year— have you become the Grinch? Cynicism is a corrosive acid that eats away at your soul. Cynicism is not the same thing as critical thinking– it is a generally negative approach to life itself. Jesus stressed that believing leads to seeing, but the converse is not necessarily the case. Think on these things.
