Atheism on Trial– Part Four

Atheism on Trial– Part Four

Q. One of your major points throughout the book is the illogic of various arguments by atheists and agnostics like— Since you can’t prove that the Biblical God exists, then this must mean he doesn’t’. But surely the burden of proof must lie with those who want to deny God’s existence since it is still a minority opinion throughout the world? And what exactly do you think atheists mean by ‘proof’?

A. Most published atheists try to avoid “proof” that God doesn’t exist. Instead, they spend their time trying to poke holes in the belief systems of others. This is akin to a strawman that one constructs, just to knock it down. This is problematic and unfair. The atheists never adequately describe belief, and so they are poking holes in a fiction. The final assault by most of these is a challenge to the believer to prove God. They then typically expect some mathematical or science proof of God. That isn’t how you prove or disprove God. It is using a thermometer to tell how far it is from my door to my car.
