Atheism on Trial– Part Seven

Atheism on Trial– Part Seven

Q. The issue of meaning and significance is also a big one. Explain to my readers why you think the arguments of atheists about this are unsatisfying and even illogical?

A. Many in life seek significance. They cry out from their deep selves wanting to be liked, loved, and important. Some are so desperate they become narcissistic feeders on attention and praise. This aspect of humanity speaks not only to the way people are hard-wired for more in this life, but also to the way everyone is inadequate. People want relationships. So the appropriate question of “Why?” has a few answers. I find the most satisfying answer to be that we were made for more in life. We were made to be important. We were made to be valued and significant. We were made for a relationship with God in his image. But sin has intervened into the picture and deprived us of this value. Absent God bridging the gap caused by sin, we are left hungering for significance and attention, but never finding it. As we find God, however, we find a peace that passes understanding and learn to grow in the ultimate relationship.
