‘Seek ye first the Kingdom of God, and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.’

With all the problems of life surrounding us today, our Lord gives us one guiding principle of action. God has a kingdom which is central in his thought–a Kingdom which is central in his thought– a kingdom of souls. We were created to honor, love, and obey him. The nature of his kingdom was revealed in the life, the teaching, the character, and the death of our Savior on the cross.  It is the kingdom of righteousness, truth, and peace.

Against this kingdom the powers of evil are always fighting, in the heart, the city, the state, and the world. Sin represents a great revolt throughout the world, against the divine rule of Christ and is the cause of the misery of the human race. Every one of us is called and it is our duty to take the side of God in the contest by putting his kingdom first of all, in all our decisions and in all our life. We must seek it first in order of choice– God must come before pleasure, politics, or personal gain. God at the heart of life will purify and ennoble every relationship, and will pave the way toward the golden era in which people, loyal to the King, who is also our Father, will be brothers and sisters of one another.  War, religious persecution, and selfish competition in daily life will all be impossible when the first thought of men, is to do the will of God. This seems a far off ideal today, but every life devoted to Jesus Christ in the power of love kindled at Calvary helps to bring it nearer. The great prayer will yet find an answer– thy Kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.’
