The Whistler Exhibit at the Smithsonian–Part Four

The Whistler Exhibit at the Smithsonian–Part Four February 5, 2024

The more time Whistler spent on the Continent, the more he found canals in Holland or Venice interesting as subject matter.

Scenes with women in them, especially exotic eastern looking women got his attention as well.

Strange shaped buildings and interesting signs on shops caught his eye as well.

Not many painters did as many nocturnal paintings as did Whistler, but again this was in part because of his fascination with how light affected or determined the color of something.
