There are in fact five such dams, but here pictured is the main one. These are dams on the river Euphrates which are allowing massive irrigation in eastern Turkey, with resulting huge crops of pistachios, figs, olives, cotton, and other staples.
On the top of the dam there is a nice cafe with a good breeze, and lovely oleanders…
The result of the dam is not only more crops, but also some nice lakes to swim in… for instance, this one.
But the real deal is visiting the Euphrates itself, which we did. Here is a river famous all the way back to the time of the book of Genesis.
And we took some time to stick our feet in the river…… and check the shells…. oh yes and the fig bushes and the flowers
Did I mention trying some of the incredible fish that come out of this river, these ponds and the Mediterranean at Adana?
Turkey has it all… except oil. Not much oil, and only some natural gas. But there’s lots to thank God for in this land, and to thank our Tutku friends who make it possible to see all these sites, try all this great Turkish food, and come home having lost weight!
