Announcing Good News March 25, 2020

Today marks 9 months until Christmas. It is a day when many Christians remember the story of the Angel Gabriel coming to visit Mary, the mother of Jesus. The story always impresses me. I imagine Mary had a lot of emotions as she heard the Angel’s words.  But in spite of all the inevitable challenges this would create for her, Mary received the news with an open heart. She believed that, in spite of her life being turned completely upside-down, Jesus was good news.

In small ways, I believe that everyone who has embraced Jesus in their life has experienced this in some way. Jesus tends to disrupt our carefully laid plans, but he replaces them with something much bigger and better. The Jesus way is not easy, but it is very good. It calls us to lay down all that we are in order to receive all that he is.

Mary gives us a great example of what it looks like to say yes to the gracious offer of God, to take our lives and unite them to His life.
