Every year I look forward to an annual trip to my father-in-law’s cabin in the middle of the Hiawatha National Forest, located in Michigan’s beautiful Upper Peninsula. I love this trip because it allows me to turn off the noise that permeates my everyday life.
There is no electricity, no phone service, and no distractions. It is wonderful.
During this week, I am forced to stop and experience the splendor around me. I am reminded that the natural beauty of the world is always there, I am just distracted by lights and sounds that demand my attention.
When I take this time to step away from all the noise, I often find that God has been speaking in a still, small voice all along. I simply hadn’t heard over the din of my own life.
I believe that God is always speaking to us. One way we can make room for God in our lives is to turn down the noise and listen.
Take some time this weekend to turn down the sound. Go outside. Turn off your phone. Moderate your breath and slow your thoughts. Invite God to speak.
I hope you will hear God’s whisper.
“Be still and know that I am God”
Psalm 46:10
