Francis de Sales was a leader in a time of tremendous division. As the Bishop of Geneva, he faced some of the deepest divisions of the reformation among the community he sought to serve. I can’t help but think that his experience might offer some wisdom to those of us in communities suffering from great division.
One quote struck me,
“Whoever wants
to preach effectively
must preach with love.”
I might add that we could add any activity that we wish to accomplish effectively should begin with this foundation of love.
It’s a tremendously important reminder.
His feast is normally celebrated today.
