Dreams are weird. They never make sense. Not usually. But sometimes they do. I think I figured out where one of my more interesting dreams came from. Several months back I woke up from a dream wondering
‘Why Did I Dream About That?”
In the dream I was in Galveston Texas with my wife. Kristin and I were in a gift shop and I picked out a sweatshirt for $35.00. We went walking around town and I asked her,
“do you want to invest some money in this town?”
She replied, “why would I want to invest money in a town that always floods.”
The Beach Hotel catered to vacationers until a fire in 1898.
I woke up and asked the guru of all wisdom and knowledge ‘Google’, if there was a Galveston Texas. It confirmed that it did exist. So where did I hear about it? Did it flood there? Turns out that yes it did indeed flood there.
At the beginning of the century back in 1900 the disastrous Galveston hurricane blew its terrible winds on this quaint coastal resort city and port off the Southeast Texas coast on Galveston Island and Pelican Island in the great state of Texas. It would infamously become
Between 6,000 and 12,000 people, mostly in and near Galveston, Texas, lost their lives as a result of this devastating storm. It left roughly 10,000 people homeless, and destroyed 7,000 buildings of all kinds. As of 2025 in the year in which this essay is being written, it remains the fourth deadliest Atlantic hurricane on record.
WOW!!!
Perhaps that is where I heard about it. But there still might be another place.
As a blogger I like to look up historical facts that happen on specific days so that I can have something interesting to write about. So what interesting things happen on June 17th?
2021 – Juneteenth National Independence Day, was signed into law by President Joe Biden, to become the first federal holiday established since Martin Luther King Jr. Day in 1983.

NOW HERE IS SOMETHING TO WRITE ABOUT
Here is what Biden had to say about it.
On June 19, 1865 — nearly nine decades after our Nation’s founding, and more than 2 years after President Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation — enslaved Americans in Galveston, Texas,
WAIT!
Where did Biden say enslaved Americans were from?

I think I now know where the nugget of information about Galveston, Texas came from. Biden continues…
finally received word that they were free from bondage. As those who were formerly enslaved were recognized for the first time as citizens, Black Americans came to commemorate Juneteenth with celebrations across the country, building new lives and a new tradition that we honor today. In its celebration of freedom, Juneteenth is a day that should be recognized by all Americans. And that is why I am proud to have consecrated Juneteenth as our newest national holiday.

General Orders
No. 3 }
The people of Texas are informed that, in accordance with a proclamation from the Executive of the United States, “all slaves are free.” This involves an absolute equality of personal rights and rights of property between former masters and slaves, and the connection heretofore existing between them becomes that between employer and hired labor.
The freedmen are advised to remain quietly at their present homes and work for wages. They are informed that they will not be allowed to collect at military posts and that they will not be supported in idleness either there or elsewhere.

I had a dream about a dream come true for a whole lot of Americans.
Next time you have a weird dream.
Next time you have a specific dream about a specific place
and you wonder “Why Did I Dream That?”
Know that Some bit of knowledge snuck into your subconscious and lodged its way in.
It decided to sneak back out when you were quiet and asleep.
