My wife was Gone for a week and went to pick her up last night.
Our week apart is now Gone.
On the first day back together we went to St. Philips for our nighttime activity. As I was in the adoration chapel with her I started to read a copy of a book given to me from one of the guys in my Men of St. Joseph Catholic prayer group. I read this passage that jumped out at me.
We have forgotten our finitude. Finitude is the state of having limits, bounds, or an end. We are human beings, we have limits, and it is past time we started living with that in mind. Every day we participate in an epic clash between the infinite and the finite. Your time is finite, but the possibilities are endless. Life isn’t about getting everything done. That’s impossible. Our refusal to face this immutable truth has resulted in epidemic levels of dissatisfaction. This dissatisfaction has led us to doubt, question, and dislike ourselves for not being able to do something that was impossible to begin with.

It made me think this bible verse we pray in the liturgy of the hours.
So teach us to number our days, That we may get us a heart of wisdom.
-Psalm 90:12
Recently a girl I knew in college died at around age 50. I couldn’t go to the celebration of life cause I was working and couldn’t get it off. She like my college days are Gone.

I love how St. Thérèse of Lisieux embraced this truth in her “little way” of finding God in the moment. She knew each mundane task – like washing dishes – was an opportunity to love God. She didn’t wait for grand gestures, but lived fully awake to the spiritual potential of the present.
The Psalmist and St. Thérèse both call me to live with wisdom of heart – to number my days, to treasure each fleeting moment, and to stay spiritually awake to God’s presence here and now. This is how one can gain wisdom of heart. It is an important reminder in light of the Gospel yesterday regarding the 10 virgins and the bridegroom (Matthew 25:1-13). –Make Us Know the Shortness of Our Life – by Lawain McNeil
People die everyday. Most people you or I don’t know or have ever heard of. Celebrities are no better or more important than anyone else who dies. But they are more wildly know by the general population. We read their books, listen to their music, and watch them in movies or TV shows. When they pass on to their eternal reward the mass media lets us know that they are no longer breathing and among the living. They are
Gone.

Remember learn how to number our days,
So that we may get a heart of wisdom.
Because Today Will Soon Be Gone.
But if you imitate St. James the Great (whose feast day is July 25), in following and being dedicated to Christ you won’t be Gone forever but will be remembered in a realm where you never be Gone but will Go On Eternally.
So death is at work in us, but life in you.
Since, then, we have the same spirit of faith,
according to what is written, I believed, therefore I spoke,
we too believe and therefore speak,
knowing that the one who raised the Lord Jesus
will raise us also with Jesus
and place us with you in his presence.
Everything indeed is for you,
so that the grace bestowed in abundance on more and more people
may cause the thanksgiving to overflow for the glory of God
