Laura is back with another kids corner review!
Prayers for Young Catholics published by Pauline Press is a wonderful little prayer book compiled by the Daughters of St. Paul. It is packed with prayers of all kinds including:
-Basic Prayers
– Prayers to Mary
– Prayers to the Saints
– Prayers from the Bible
– Prayers for Various Needs
– Praying the Rosary
– Praying the Stations of the Cross
– Prayers of the Catholic Faith
– Prayers for Seasons of the Church
This little gem is a perfect pocket-sized book for children to use for everyday talks to God and to take along to church for either prayers before Mass or a visit to The Blessed Sacrament. Conveniently, for Mass it includes “Prayer Before Receiving Holy Communion” and “Prayer After Receiving Holy Communion.” For those quick visits to Jesus it includes “Prayer When Visiting Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament.” Going to Confession? Take this book along. “Prayer Before Reconciliation” and “Prayer After Reconciliation” will help your child with this wonderful sacrament of healing. It includes a short Examination of Conscience to aid them in preparation, as well. For everyday use, at 174 pages, they will be hard pressed to run out of prayers to select from. There are seventeen small prayers to ask the intercession of some of the most popular saints including Saint Joseph, Saint Therese of Lisieux, Saint Michael, Saint Faustina, Saint John Bosco, plus more. Each of these prayers includes a colored picture of the saint. There is a prayer to say during each of the five Church seasons – Advent, Christmas, Lent, Easter, and Ordinary Time. Some of my favorite intercessory prayers include – “For My Family”, “For My Mom”, “For My Dad”, “For My Siblings”, “To Know and Answer God’s Call for Me” with many more to choose from. To add to the beauty of the prayers, beautiful artwork and colorful pictures flows from the many pages creating an eye-appealing book for young children.
This hardcover also includes a presentation page for gift-giving. This would make a wonderful gift for a child of 1st Communion age and up. The prayers are simply written, but that is not to say it is for “babes.” My 13 year-old took one look at this book and asked if she could have it for her bedroom. She thought it was the perfect prayer book. She loved all the extra prayers in addition to the ones she already has memorized, which are also included in the front of the book. Later my 15 year-old also requested a copy!! Since I was hoping to use it for my 8 year-old for church and home, I may have to buy an extra copy or two! In addition, it would also make a wonderful prayer book for families to use together. No matter who or how it is used, this pray book will help all in seeking the right words to grow in a greater love of God.
