Run, hurry, my Lady!, Mary: Day 109

year_with_mary_bonaventure_1Run, hurry, my Lady!

St. Bonaventure expresses a sentiment often found in the Psalms and familiar to us all: We need heaven’s help, and we need it right away!

Run, hurry, my Lady! And in your mercy
help your sinful servant who calls upon you, and deliver him from the hands of the Enemy.
Who will not sigh to you? We sigh with love and grief,
for we are oppressed on every side.
How can we do otherwise than sigh to you, comfort of those who are miserable, refuge of outcasts, ransom of captives?
We are certain that when you see our miseries, your compassion will hurry to relieve us.
Our sovereign Lady and our advocate, commend us to your Son.
Grant, blessed one,
by the grace that you have merited, that the One who through you
was graciously pleased to become a partaker of our infirmity and misery
may also through your intercession
make us partakers of his happiness and glory.

—St. Bonaventure

IN GOD’S PRESENCE, CONSIDER . . .
Am I facing any situations right now in which I need Our Lady’s help right away? Am I willing to trust that she knows God’s will for the timing of my assistance?

CLOSING PRAYER
From a prayer of St. Bernard: It’s not possible, O Lady, that you would abandon someone who has placed his hopes in you.
