Shower us with mercy, Mary: Day 117

st_anthony_1Shower us with mercy

St. Anthony of Padua prays to a mother in heaven who overflows with God’s grace and showers down his mercy on the world.

Mary, our Queen,
Holy Mother of God,
we beg you to hear our prayer.
Make our hearts overflow with God’s grace and the splendor of heavenly wisdom.
Make them strong with your power and rich in virtue.
Shower down upon us the gift of mercy
so that we may gain the forgiveness of our sins.
Help us to live in such a way
that we will merit the glory and happiness of heaven.
Let this be granted to us by your Son, Jesus, who has exalted you above the angels, has crowned you as queen,
and has seated you with him forever on his glorious throne.
—St. Anthony of Padua

IN GOD’S PRESENCE, CONSIDER . . .
St. Anthony was a brilliant preacher and a Doctor of the Church, but his devotion to Jesus and Mary was quite childlike, as this prayer demonstrates. How might I imitate his childlike simplicity as I approach Our Lady in prayer?

CLOSING PRAYER
From a prayer of St. Alphonsus: Mary, since you love me, make me like you. You have all power to change hearts, so take mine and change it. Show the world what you can do for those who love you. Make me a saint; make me your worthy child. This is my hope.
