Mary, Help of Christians, Mary: Day 144

Mary, Help of Christians, Mary: Day 144 December 12, 2015

year_with_mary_genericMary, Help of Christians

This popular traditional prayer appeals to Mary under her title “Help of Christians.” The prayer’s scope is universal, asking for her help not just in personal affairs, but also for the Pope, the whole Church, the conversion of sinners, and even the souls in purgatory.

O Mother of Mercy, Help of Christians, most faithful minister of divine providence, treasurer of all graces,
remember that never in the world
has it been heard that you have left without comfort anyone who has come to you with true devotion.
For this reason, trusting in your tender pity and in your most generous providence,
I bend low before you,
praying that you would hear my prayer. Obtain for me a holy provision for the future,
namely, graces for all my spiritual and temporal needs. I fervently recommend to your loving motherly heart our holy Church, the Sovereign Pontiff,
the conversion of sinners, the spread of the Catholic faith, and those souls chosen by our Lord
who are suffering the tormenting flames of purgatory, that they may soon be comforted
with eternal refreshment.

IN GOD’S PRESENCE, CONSIDER . . .
How often do I pray for the Pope . . . the universal Church . . . the conversion of sinners . . . the souls in purgatory? Might I ask Mary to help me keep in mind all these, whose needs are so great?

CLOSING PRAYER
From a prayer of Pope St. John Paul II: O Virgin mother, guide and sustain us so that we might always live as true sons and daughters of the Church of your Son. Enable us to do our part in helping to establish on earth the civilization of truth and love, as God wills it, for his glory.
