Angels as counselors, Angels: Day 045

Angels as counselors, Angels: Day 045 September 4, 2016

In the hierarchy of  angels, says  St. Gregory the Great, the lower receive from the higher the knowledge they need to transmit to us. Angels are our counselors, because they want us to be with them in the kingdom of Heaven.

From things that have no sense, we can learn how to understand beings with sense and intelligence.

Now, the air makes the earth fertile, and the quality of the heaven governs the air. Likewise, human beings are placed over animals, and angels over human beings, and archangels over angels.

If the superior powers did not direct the inferior powers in the service of the holy spirits, one angel would never have learned from another’s lips what he should say to a person.

The Creator of the universe upholds everything by himself, but—so as to make up an order of the universe characterized by beauty—he rules one part through the administration of another part. The angels are also rightly called counselors, because they counsel for the spiritual commonwealth, while they unite us to the kingdom as heirs along with them. From their lips we hear the will of the Creator; in them, certainly, we find the counsel to escape from the misery that surrounds us. –St. Gregory the Great,  Moralia in Job, 4.55

IN GOD’S PRESENCE, CONSIDER . . .

Do I listen to what my angel counselors are trying to tell me?

CLOSING PRAYER

Guardian Angel, lead me safely through the dangers of this life to the bosom of God, aTobias was led back to his father.
