Even angels will be condemned for unbelief; Angels: Day 350 July 8, 2017

angels_ignatius_of_antioch_1How  important is it to have a right understanding of  the Incarnation? So important, says St. Ignatius of Antioch, that even the angels in Heaven would be condemned if they did not believe that Christ’s body and blood were real.

Some ignorantly deny the Lord, or rather have been denied by him, be- cause they are the advocates of death rather than of the truth. These people have not been persuaded by the prophets, or by the Law of Moses, or by the gospel even to this day, or by the sufferings we have individually endured. For they think also the same thing regarding us.

What good does anyone do me, if he commends me, but blasphemes my Lord, not confessing that he had a body? Whoever does not acknowledge this, has in fact altogether denied him, and is enveloped in death. I have not, however, thought good to write the names of those people, since they are unbelievers. Indeed, far be it from me to make any mention of them, until they repent and return to Christ’s Passion, which is our resurrection.

Do not deceive yourselves. Even the beings in Heaven, and the glorious an- gels, and rulers both visible and invisible, will be condemned if they do not believe in the blood of Christ. –St. Ignatius of Antioch, Smyrnaeans, 5-6

IN GOD’S PRESENCE, CONSIDER . . .

If even angels will be condemned because they do not believe, what am I doing to persuade the ignorant on earth to repent and return to Christ’s Passion?

CLOSING PRAYER

Lord, have mercy on the straying, and send them your angels to help them find their way back to you.
