3 Good Reasons to Move the Gathering to Saturday the 24th

Christmas and Church land on the same day this year but there isn’t any reason we should have to sacrifice family time for tradition. Consider the following:

1. It’s only once a year

This is such a rare occurrence. I mean really, how often do Christmas and Sunday land on the same day? What are we to do? Canceling might be a little extreme, so why not bump it to another day? Nothing really changes. We could still do all the things we love to do, it would just be on a different day. God really isn’t going to care.

2. Freedom, not Pharisaical Mumbo-jumbo

Nothing is worse than someone telling us we have to do something – especially when they don’t have the biblical authority to do so. Why do we even have to hold it this Sunday? Show me one place in the Bible where it says we MUST celebrate this Sunday. Why not Saturday? Many people throughout church history have debated about the timing of the thing, let’s not be dogmatic where we aren’t clear. Saturday would be a great time to move things around and still maintain the preciousness of the 25th

3. It’s a day for families to get together and is important

I really want to spend time with my family. I love it when my extended family travels in from out of town to visit. One of the best ways for us to love others and show them our priorities is to spend time with them on the 25th. This will also ensure that pastors and their families are not tired out from church services when they are trying to celebrate Christmas.

Anyway, that’s why I’m proposing we bump the Christmas gathering and festivities back a day and still gather for worship, with the family of God in the local church, on the Lord’s Day.
