Allow me to suggest viewing options for Christmas, so that you can hopefully avoid the schlock.  I’ve divided them into different categories (limited to 3 in each category, Christmas viewing hours are finite after all) from Annual Classics (movies that can/should be watched every year) to Let’s Pretend These Don’t Exist. Read more

When the charge against Calvinism is that an utterly sovereign Lord is evil, negligent at best, unworthy of praise, the author of evil, and the tempter of mankind, I refuse to mince words. These sound more like the words of Richard Dawkins than a professing believer. Read more

The Arminian concept of God is too small because it fails to understand how the economy of God in salvation matches perfectly with Christ’s ministerial purpose: He is the rightful ruler of all things – and nothing in created order can thwart the purposes of God. Read more

One thing I greatly appreciated about this book was that is lacked the tendency to run away with polemics and chastisement of the church. We know the American church and the pastorate are weak currently (as a collective whole) – what is needed is the solution: a return to expository preaching and for the pastorate to be seen as one of a rich historical foundation. Far too many people have a particularly harder time hearing this than some others - but not all of you can or should be teachers, even on social media. Read more

The pursuit of theological study should not only refine our thoughts of God in making Him lovelier to us, but also actually change our hearts to prove this to be true. Our character should develop along with our academic prowess, lest we be venal, whitewashed bodies of truth holding knowledge about God without knowing the God of those truths. Read more

As a (self-proclaimed) fledgling scholar in theology, I am so glad for these discussions because they inform and edify, ultimately pointing us back to a deeper quest to unlock the hidden treasures of God’s word (at least in theory). It is sad, then, when Christians use the differences in scriptural interpretation to fight, spew hate, theologically caricature, or even divide the Church in matters of opinion. Read more

If you are a Baptist, I would recommend reading this book (as it is specifically stated to be a Baptist book about Baptist thought on the Lord’s Supper). If you are not a Baptist, I would still recommend this book, as it gives an inside look to some of the particularities and distinctions of the Baptist faith – yet it also gives some very helpful chapters on the Lord’s Supper in general. Again, Allison’s section alone is worth the price of this book – and you will surely not be disappointed with the other portions. Read more

You're a Calvinist—congratulations—but there's so much more about Reformed Theology than that. You're being sanctified, being conformed into the image of Christ, being worked into doing good works to the praise of God. It's only natural that you start seeking the deeper topics of the Lord. Read more

If we really understand how God feels about us, if by faith we truly embrace in our inner most being, that our identity is in Christ, then how we live out our lives will take on a completely new approach. We wil have a new, positive and ecouraging attitude as we look forward to Paradise restored. Read more
