Thank You, Liberal Christians – An Open Letter

Dear Liberal Christian,

I am grateful for your firm stance in support of Obergefell; you weren’t simply climbing onto the cultural bandwagon hoping to make the church more relevant – you were pioneering the way and showing your true colors (rainbow, I might add). You came up with terms such as “gay Christian” whilst highlighting the love of God to the nth degree.

You knew what archaic scriptures to leave relegated to the days gone by. Not only this, but you plainly refuted Paul’s understanding of homosexuality with your understanding of the modern day homosexual practicing fidelity and monogamy. You helped clearly redefine the terms and gave a voice to those practicing such deeds so that they can no longer be seen in Paul’s condemning diatribe against “those who practice such deeds.”

I am also grateful for your firm stance in supporting the pro-choice movement, and especially Planned Parenthood. Your commitment to the life and well being of a mother, as well as condemning those whitewashed tombs standing against the mother-to-be (or not), has truly been remarkable. Not only have you drawn focus to “stone casting” – more importantly, you have been willing to hold the mother-to-not-be’s hand while she makes such a tough decision. You have showered grace upon grace, giving a voice to whom you feel is the truly marginalized person, and helped them get on with their life.

I am grateful you have shown your fruit and it is only a matter of time before the rest of the secular culture recognizes you are not Christians as defined by scripture, but self-proclaiming “Christians” of an altogether different flock. For far too long there has been confusion in the world, believing those who proclaim Christ by their own profession of faith rather than by the tenets of a biblical Christianity. You have so successfully muddied the waters through negotiating core doctrinal truths, that previous to such large cultural divides, not many could discern the difference between the professing “Christian” and the legitimate sheep who keep His commands and believe His word, in their love for Christ.

The interesting thing about flagrant, publically sanctioned sin is found within Paul’s admonition to the Roman church:

• The wrath of God is being revealed against those who suppress the truth because what is known about God is plain to all mankind – so that people are without excuse.
• God has given mankind over to their sinful desires because they have neither glorified him as God nor given Him thanks, but instead worshipped that which was created.
• They have exchanged the truth for the lie, thinking that it was not worthwhile to retain a proper knowledge of God.
• They have been filled with every sort of sin because of this, becoming inventors of evil, knowing such things deserve death.
• They know all of this, yet practice such deeds and herald others who do the same.
• Because of all of the aforementioned – they are left without excuse in judgment because they condemn themselves.
• They are storing up wrath against themselves, having long seared their conscience, although it yet bears witness against them.

Although I am grateful that scripture has laid barren the womb where your deception has been conceived, I plead with God that the Spirit will unstop your ears and awaken you to the truth of scripture. I pray that your conscience pricks you so firmly that you are undone and pronounce woe upon yourself, subsequently running as swiftly as you can to seek the forgiveness of God. I beg that you will consider the very words of your professed Savior when He said:

“If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our abode with him. Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me” (John 14:23-24).

I implore you to explore the context of your life verse, John 3:16, and see the very words of your professed Savior once again when He said:

“This is the judgment, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the Light, for their deeds were evil. For everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. But he who practices the truth comes to the Light, so that his deeds may be manifested as having been wrought in God” (John 3:19-21).

Yet if you fail to repent and believe the full truth of God’s word – I am grateful nonetheless that these issues have and will continue to divide us plainly in the sight of all men as those who either prostitute themselves to the cultural gods, or those who will not bow.
