5 Prayers For Police Officers

5 Prayers For Police Officers March 15, 2016

Here are five prayers for every police officer or for family members to pray for police officers.

Prayer for Trust

Oh Righteous Father, I trust You in everything that I do and in every place that I go and I ask You to protect me and those who are putting their lives on the line every day. In this increasingly dangerous world, law enforcement officers are on the front line and that means that I too am placing my life on the line with each call that I make and I ask you to go with me today in my duties to help me to not be caught off guard and to trust in You to keep me safe from harm. I know that You have established all authorities and powers (Rom 13:1-5) and that law enforcement officers are an extension of Your sovereignty over mankind and so please help me to honor You in my duties today and in the priceless name of Jesus Christ I pray, amen.

Prayer for Protection

Father God, You alone know everything that will happen today and so I pray for Your protection as I prepare for duty today, not knowing what is to come, but knowing that You know every detail and so I ask You to give me wisdom in the performance of my duty to make wise decisions, to keep citizens safe from harm, and to do so in a way that honors You and glorifies You because You put Your Son, Jesus Christ, in harm’s way so that I might be saved and that is truly the greatest gift that can be given, so I pray Lord, give me guidance to make wise choices and for others who trust me whom I will encounter today and compassion for those who need me and to You I ask in the Mighty Name of Jesus Christ, amen.

Prayer for Your Glory

Great God in heaven, ruler of heaven and earth, I am praying for our local police officers but also for firefighters and emergency medical staff too and ask for your protection for them today and to watch over them from above and to guide them in their decision making as they do their duties. Please hold them firmly in your caring hands and to keep them from danger so that they can protect us from those who would seek to harm us. Give them the strength to carry on when tragedy strikes, to give them the courage to face the dangers that are so present in this world, and to watch over their own families too as they also need the comfort and prayers of the community and so for these things I pray and for the glory and honor of the name in which I pray, Jesus Christ, amen.

Prayer for Wisdom

Sometimes, Righteous Father, I have to make life and death decisions in a slit second and I cannot always stop to think about it since there may not be time and so I ask You Father to help me make wise decisions while carrying out the performance of my duties. When I am in situations where I don’t have much time to decide what to do, I ask for Your great wisdom in doing what is best for everyone while also protecting my own life and not just those of the local citizens. I need the wisdom from above that is not from below as Your wisdom is superior to that of man and to I put my trust in You and ask for You to make it clear what I should do in difficult decisions when I might not have time to wait and think about it. I ask in the name of and for the glory of the coming King of kings and Lord of lords, Jesus Christ, amen.

The Prayer for Peace

Lord God my Father, I pray that You would give me and my fellow officer’s strength and courage in the fields of battle that we may encounter today. It is so unpredictable today, even making a traffic stop, so help me not take any chances in the line of duty for me today. May our missions to protect and to serve always be for honorable and just causes for which we are called. Please guide our leaders to act with wisdom and compassion and those who work with me in law enforcement and help us to protect and to defend the rights of the innocent for which we were sworn to do. I would also ask you Lord, to watch over our loved ones while we are far from home but also, when we are in harm’s way, protect us from injury and I pray not only for peace in the community but please grant us safety today and all of this I ask in the great name of Jesus Christ, amen.

Conclusion

Our law enforcement agencies are an extension of the sovereignty and rule of God. That’s what the Apostle Paul said when he wrote “Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment” (Rom 13:1-2) because she or “he is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, an avenger who carries out God’s wrath on the wrongdoer” (Rom 13:4).
