What about the Alt-Left?

What about the Alt-Left? October 3, 2016

We’ve all heard about the Alt-Right.  This is some movement within conservatism where people seem content to live up to all of the negative stereotypes that have been said about conservatives over the years.   The idea, I suppose, is that not all conservatives are bigots, racists, homophobes, sexist, and on and on.  Some are, and those would be the Alt-Right.  As far as I remember, there was never such a distinction, but since there is now, I’ll take everyone’s word.

So it’s only fair to point out that the Left, or liberalism, must have its own version of the Alt-Right.  I suppose we can use the less than imaginative term Alt – Left.  This is fair, since it separates the worst elements of the Left from those who obviously aren’t part of those elements.  For a look at what the Alt-Left looks like, you could do worse than this piece by John C Wright.

I’m no economist, so the sections dealing with trade and its role in future political structures are lost on me.  But the overall assessment of where this movement wants things to go, and the world it wants to create, are tough to deny.  Trying to give the benefit of the doubt, I tried to find something wrong in Mr. Wright’s assessment near the end of his article, but came away with few disagreements.

For those who fear the Alt-Right, hopefully the Alt-Left holds just as many dangers.
