In a world full of spirits I see, I see. In a world full of spirits I see. The door is flapping, The spirits come in, speaking. Noisy voices full of rancor & mirth, Speaking words made of wood & wind meat & metal We are sharing secrets, long lost friends. Bring the wisdom down from the stately clouds Bring the wisdom up from the blinded waters I see, I see. Hissing words they come to me in colors of... Read more

Longing to walk among the birch trees To nurse them from seedlingsOn land I belong toTo feel the contours of the terrainKnown and unknown alwaysA lover I have kissed in years pastA tree branch is a lock of hair I brush pastTo come to a place between the pineA mossy mound, a place to restTo be blessed by the fragrance and the moist airMerge until there is nothing left of you,Or IThe moment when the sky rides across usand the... Read more

I disappeared into the woods today. Some state land that is surprisingly close by the city. I really needed some tree time, some time away from people, and people’s things. I was also hoping to collect some pine resin, for use in incense making, and possibly crafting. I knew where to look, and I found trees that had been damaged weeping pine sap down their sides. I used my knife to pry it up and almost immediately I sliced into... Read more

The frost on my windshield is intricate this morningLike a Russian teahouseThe exhaust has become billowing clouds brought to earth By some winged spiritI could slip between the worlds on a morning like thisFare forth on a journey to the land beyond the sunInstead,I am the world destroyerChoosing which intricate, fractalized form must dieThe harsh sound of the necessary removal of beautyDo the survivors out of my reach mourn their brethren? Sitting at the wheel, I seeThe fragmentary ice patterns... Read more

Phantom noise reverberatesEchoing off the silenceSo enormously loud that bones could crack like rotten iceInternal pressure like some strange translucent sea creatureBlinded by the dim light as it rises from dark obscurityFalling upward into a thousand thousand countless starsExpanding outward, each individual atom needs more room.“It’s not you”, they say,“It’s me.”Pushing away into the infinitePassing from one sort of shadow to anotherIt is the moment of transition from one form to another that almost destroys me. Read more

Burnt out ends of smoky days and so we keep them through our ways and when we go we seldom know what gods and mortals say Rising moon above the gloom is far above this mortal plain night enshrouds the darkened clouds we call you just the same Read more

My old friend and fellow blogger Dave Crampton commented on my last post that he spotted some chickens over at the Genesee Garden Cohousing running loose. I do worry that my chickens will decide to fly the coop. They’ve been content to stay in my yard and nibble greenery there thus far. I though I’d share a little Chicken TV in honor of those naughty chickens who did escape. My kitty Magellan really enjoyed watching their antics through the safety... Read more

I thought it would be fun to explore my word for the year through the months, seeing where my mind and creativity would take me. I was looking at my mail the other day, and was excited to see another seed catalog in the mail. I get a ton of these every year and I spend the winter months reading them intently comparing costs, and varieties, pondering organic versus non-GMO seed. When the sun is far away, it’s seed catalogs... Read more
