We’re approaching the mud Spring season, and with all the birds chirping and the grass peeking out from under the snow, I’ve been in the mood for pretty decorations. I also was given a grab bag of ribbons and string, a lot of it beautiful vintage stuff. So I decided to make something out of it all. I had these three Chinet plates, the really sturdy paper ones. Since I only had three, I decided to make them wreaths. I... Read more

Here’s a beautiful idea from Two Chicks and a Hen on how to make an adorable ice bunting. The photo above is the bunting I made, and you can find her instructions here on how to make one yourself. I think it’s a lovely idea for some winter color outside when everything is just covered with snow. Two Chicks and a Hen is my new favorite mommy blog. She’s got lots of fun kid projects, all with a focus on... Read more

This is a really simple and fun project that I did with my kids to make some really special candles for Imbolc. First we made a salt dough snake and started to curl it into a spiral: We continued to coil and add snakes to make a bowl shape. Then I threaded a needle with some heavy string, and pulled it through the bottom for the wick. I used a cotton swab to balance the wick so it goes through... Read more

This is a baby blanket I made for some dear friends who moved out to Vermont this year. It’s the first of the backlog of baby gifts, I’ve got a bunch more to make yet. But I really like how it came out. It’s made of felted wool sweaters, so it will be super warm in those cold Vermont winters. I’m really excited about the next couple of gifts I’m making, I splurged and bought new fabric for them, which... Read more

As part of the very cool One World One Heart bloghop we’re supposed to introduce ourselves. I’m never very good at introductions. I’m a person who flubs that whole first impression thing. I tend to spill wine all over myself, or trip, or just sound like a incoherent goofball. It takes me a while to get used to new people. I like to take my time, to see what they do. I’m an introvert, and while I can down a... Read more

I’ve been on a cleaning and organizing kick recently. My house tends to stay a lot closer to chaos than to order, and sometimes finding a flat surface that’s empty is a challenge. Recently I’ve been craving order and empty flat surfaces, so I’ve been getting rid of stuff. In my quest I came across a blue sweatshirt I was given. It was like new, but I rarely wear pullover sweatshirts, so I decided a sweatshirt hack was in order.... Read more

The word inspiration is used to describe the process in which a person somehow or another finds ideas to create something. It’s a magical word, a mysterious process. Literally inspiration means to in-spire or breath in. I love this TED talk by Elizabeth Gilbert, the author of Eat Pray Love. Take 20 minutes out of your life and check out some new/old ideas about creativity. I really resonated with what she said. I felt saner and less like a crazy... Read more

So I really loved the cosmos theme this month, and I’ve done absolutely nothing with it because I’ve just gotten sidetracked with other projects. Some of it has been finishing holiday gifts up, some of it has been other inspiration and some of it has been working on other projects. I’ve been working on this one seriously for about a month now, and I’m happy to say it’s finished. It’s a mixed media work, for my word of the year,... Read more
