Oh my gosh, I have so much good stuff to share! I’ve been so busy in the last couple of weeks, the girls and I visited all over the Metro Detroit area, went camping up by Traverse City, and school started! We swam in a pond down in Maybee Town We gave fairies cherries and got fairy gold in return We found new friends and hand in hand We walked with old friends By the light of the sun and... Read more

My Sewing Grasshopper print was just featured in The Handmade Gift Guide along with a cricket haiku contest! I wrote a haiku for the occasion: picking beans today I found a still grasshopper we both stop and stare I was looking around their site, and it’s really nice. Lots of beautiful stuff, and well worth wandering over to check out! It’s so exciting for me to see my prints being featured by other people! For those of you who are... Read more

For the last week of August I wanted to share a sketch I did of a firebird. It’s that liminal time before fall starts, but all of the plants look so tired. They all have a bit of a grey brown tinge, everyone is waiting for the cool fall breezes to come. It reminds me of the phoenix regenerating from the ashes. I imagined my firebird getting ready her nest for herself, so that she would have a safe spot... Read more

I’ve been entering into the world of embroidery, and I really like it! All the different stitches intrigue me, it’s like painting with thread. Here’s my current work in progress, it’s going to be a quilt block. It’s inspired by eastern European embroidery traditions, of which there are many. The Textile Blog is a great resource for inspiration on all things textile, including these images of old European embroidery. Here’s some other things I’ve been working on, preserving the bounty... Read more

I’ve been on vacation. It was lovely. Just wanted to share a couple of pics of the campground I was at. It’s down in southern Ohio, near Yellow Springs. I go to Summerland, an ADF Druid festival held there. I always learn a ton, and I always go down and visit the cliffs and the river. Read more

I call them the swan tree and the rabbit tree, respectively. Creative names huh? It’s too bad the pics are so small, you can’t really see the gold paint details, I had a lot of fun with the gold paint. They’re a little odd, but it was really fun to do. It took a surprisingly long time to paint those small little animals. The whole thing is about a foot by four inches. Read more

My daughter kindly held our heirloom tomato bounty so that I could photograph it today. Aren’t they beautiful? We’ve got Green Zebra, Brandywine, Yellow Peach and Early Girl and Roma tomatoes this year. Over at ChildWild Sierra does what she calls The Gratitude Project from the first Harvest Festival until the equinox. Every day she notes what she’s grateful for. I’m grateful for: heirloom tomatoes my camera music and my youngest daughter successfully using the potty! (I know, TMI, sorry.)... Read more

Here’s a finished painting! I’m so pleased to be done with it, and I even like it. Painting all those swirls was very soothing. Here’s the painting at an earlier stage. I’m on a rampage of finishing paintings. I should have another finished painting to post later in the week. The best part is that my fire and smoke even goes with Leah’s August theme of Fire over at Creative Every Day. Read more

Last week my girls and I were visiting my husband’s family in Port Huron and we discovered something wonderful. Something magical. We found fairies! And then we built them houses. Fairies need houses made of bark, with brooms and food and little beds made of white pine needles. There was much delight and giggles and hard work involved in our houses. We know the fairies appreciated it. What food might a fairy eat you wonder? Well, fallen apples and flowers... Read more

I’m so excited to announce that I’ve finally got an apron up at my Etsy shop! Even more exciting is that I also posted one of my paintings to sell as well! Sometimes it takes me a little time to be able to part with them. It’s like parting with a tiny bit of my self. I know my photos aren’t perfect yet, and my backdrop is my messy backyard, but I’m happy to be moving forward with it. I... Read more
