I am just falling in love with this new online magazine I found, Rhythm of the Home. It’s packed full of wonderful delights like summer solstice celebrations, making fairy looms (I’ve got to try that one) and I just read this article on children with choleric temperaments that really made me think of my oldest daughter. It’s beautiful and inspirational and I’ll just say it takes a lot to make me gush like this. I’m also thrilled because I’ve been... Read more

Here’s what I was working on this week, and she’s certainly been my bliss. I started this box ages ago as a home for my raven, but the poor thing out grew his home, so of course a magpie stopped by and built her nest of shiny bits and string. She hasn’t laid her eggs yet, we’re all waiting impatiently to see what they will look like and how many there will be. She’s made of all sorts of junk... Read more

Got some more printing done. I can’t decide what to do with the hankie I printed the cricket onto. What do you think? The rose bush is in bloom. I just want to disappear into the frothy pink. I have an odd obsession with beetles. I know it. I can’t seem to help it. I do like how the print becomes a pattern when repeated. I’m thinking of carving a block with four of them to make more fabric printed... Read more

As I sat a tiny beetle flew around and landed on my arm. I watched as it struggled and fumbled across the landscape of my pale hair. It seemed lost and confused and I wondered where it was going. I looked at the pale tile and thought there was nowhere for it to go, for it was out of context there, a beetle in a bathroom has no meaning. I tipped my arm and it fell, then flew. Somehow it... Read more

While I figure out the best way to transfer a sketch onto linoleum, I sketched a couple of designs directly onto a couple of blocks, and I’m carving away! The first is a matryoshka, I’ve been seeing them all over etsy and I’m totally in love, I thought I’d make my own. Turning the image so it was a 3/4 view was a bit of a challenge, and I think I still need to work on the flower belt, but... Read more

I’m super busy right now, but I wanted to share a couple of sketches I’m working on to make new block prints of. The first is another in my insect girls series, she’s more cartoony than the beetle, but I felt like making a spider too realistic could get creepy very quickly. I was trying to go for a tangled in my project feel for her. The bear was inspired by my girls. One of my pet names for my... Read more

I just got my order from Richter’s an awesome herb supplier out of Ontario. They have an amazing selection of every kind of herb you might want. I got perennial herbs, things that I’ve tried to start from seed and failed. Yay for ordering plants! Lovage, French Thyme and Good King Henry are for cooking. Lovage has a celery flavor, and Good King Henry is basically a perennial kale. Anise-Hyssop and Lemon Verbena are for tea, and Horehound is for... Read more

I finished this one yesterday, thanks to my DH for giving me some time on Mother’s Day. I think time is one of the best gifts. I’m happy with it. I particularly like the bike rider at the bottom of the painting. and there’s a hidden bird too! I didn’t even realize I had painted it in there, but once I saw it, it never goes away. This was from a dream I had. I was napping (again, thanks to... Read more

I’m pretty proud of this one. It’s my own pattern, lined, with a fitted bodice. Best part was that I was able to cut a second set of pieces to use as a pattern to make more, with darts indicated and everything. I’m feeling pretty cool right now. Read more

I wasn’t real sure about sharing this poem, but what the heck, it seemed appropriate for Creative Every Day’s theme of Inspiration. I don’t write poetry very often, mostly just for myself. It’s like do it yourself therapy. Sometimes the pain comes on like beauty And the awen flows upward through The shock of finding that I would be this That I would sing, That I would write That most of all I would make art I would make art... Read more
