It’s been forever since I posted last on this challenge. I have been working on stuff however, I just never got around to posting it! So, to get back on this horse, here’s a mega post of the last few weeks. 1. plant something– I’ve planted some mystery brassicas and they’re getting attacked by the slugs pretty badly. I’ve put eggshells around them, but it seem like some of the little devourers are still getting through. The plants are either... Read more

I have been having an extremely creative day. I might even hazard that it’s been a very creative week overall. Here’s some pics of my recent work in progress. It’s odd that I used to be stopped in my tracks by trying to figure out if my art was good, or if other people would like it. It doesn’t seem to matter anymore for me what other people think. Don’t get me wrong I like it when people look at... Read more

We’ve been having a good garden year, and I’ve enjoyed sharing it with my girls. A few days ago I found a grasshopper clinging to my doorway, completely ignoring gravity. I caught him and shared his coolness with my girls and a couple of their friends visiting at the time. I thought I’d share some pictures of our catch and release grasshopper along with some other garden pics. My seven foot tall rose bush. Borage and Zinnias my culinary herb... Read more

I was really excited to make this dress for Ailee. She picked the fabric, and I jazzed it up with the ruffle and the embroidery. I used vintage buttons that I love, and I think she looks adorable in it. I decided to make her some school clothes when we were shopping and I just couldn’t find clothes that fit her that weren’t way too grown up for my little five year old. I wanted something that made her feel... Read more

I framed up a couple of my prints, one for my DH and one for a donation to an auction. I should have some up on my etsy shop soon. I had a wonderful weekend at a camping retreat with friends. We were in southern Ohio and the only regret I have is that I forgot my camera! Read more

I’m really excited to have joined Leah at Creative Every Day in her challenge to incorporate creativity into every day. I took an oath two springs ago to work on my art at least once a week and it has changed my relationship to creativity. I’ve gone from working in fits and spurts, sometimes with months between sessions, to sitting down for some kind of arts or crafts almost every day. I think this is going to be a great... Read more

Ailee lost her two front teeth the other day, and I whipped up this tooth bag so that she wouldn’t loose her teeth under her pillow. Also, it’s a lot easier for the tooth fairy to find the teeth under her pillow when they’re in a little bag. The next morning she found a tidy stack of quarters in her little bag. The drawing is a note for the tooth fairy. I’ve inspired myself with how easy it was to... Read more

We’re going to my husbands family reunion tommorow. It made me think of my own family and my history. I have all the pictures from my father’s family, and it’s quite a collection. Slowly I’ve been scanning them in, and eventually I want to learn how to restore them. The one above is of my grandmother from Scotland, Mary Pirie and her sister Bertha. Honestly, I’m not sure which is which! There’s a old family tale about how the Pirie... Read more

I’d like to share my recipe for making 2 loaves of honey whole wheat bread. The recipe is easily doubled to four loaves, if you don’t mind kneading a lot of dough. I always found the 4 loaves to be very helpful, since once people find out that you make bread, they tend to want to share. The trick to really great whole wheat bread is really great whole wheat bread flour. If you plan to make bread on a... Read more

I have a minor obsession with power lines. The way the curving lines cross the sky has often made me feel like we are trying to tie ourselves down. Like we might just fly off the planet without this web of lines. Sometimes I just wish I could get a good look at the sky without it being bisected by the darn things. Read more
