It may surprise some of you to know that there is a “Society of Ordained Scientists.”

But there is:

“How can such a thing possibly exist?” some scientistic dogmatists will ask.  “Religious faith and scientific reason are completely incompatible!”

“Clearly,” such folks will say, “these people haven’t really thought about the relationship between the two.  It’s just a matter of compartmentalization.  They’re rational in their work, but completely irrational in their silly religious lives.”

But the idea that the people in the Society of Ordained Scientists haven’t ever thought about the interface between faith and reason, between religion and science,  is risible, and plainly false.
