
One of the greatest diarists of Mormonism, as well as an apostle and eventual president of the Church, he is a major eyewitness source for the history of Mormonism in the nineteenth century.

It’s become acceptable, even fashionable, in certain ostensibly believing quarters of Mormondom, to condescend to, lament, criticize, and even oppose the men sustained by his Church as the Lord’s prophets, seers, and revelators.
I cannot join in such things. I find them abhorrent. Certainly inappropriate. Inconsistent with both the doctrine that I believe and the attitudes that, in my view, should characterize faithful Latter-day Saints.
