A prayer for truth

A prayer for truth

As I was growing up, he was THE first counselor in the First Presidency
President Hugh B. Brown
(1883-1975)

On 31 May 1968, very nearly forty-seven years ago, Hugh B. Brown, first counselor in the First Presidency of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, cited this wonderful but otherwise unidentified “ancient prayer” in a commencement address at Brigham Young University entitled “God is the Gardener”:

From the cowardice that shrinks from new truth,
From the laziness that is content with half-truths,
From the arrogance that thinks it knows all truth,
O God of Truth, deliver us.
