I would estimate that, over the past several weeks, two-thirds of the political ads I’ve seen on television have been commercials sponsored by Jeb Bush’s super pac and dedicated to harsh criticism of Marco Rubio.

I don’t understand it.  And, truth be told, I’m disappointed and, really, irritated by it.

Jeb Bush seems to be a decent fellow.  And he was, by most accounts, a popular and exceptionally successful governor.  If he were the Republican nominee, I would fall into line to support him.

But his campaign appears to be going nowhere.  He’s light years from the nomination, and it seems extremely unlikely that he’ll come out on top.

So why is his campaign so heavily negative?  And why is it focused with such laser-like obsessiveness on Senator Rubio?

Is the idea that, if he can’t win, he at least wants to destroy?  Is it personal?  Does he or somebody on his team really hate Mr. Rubio with such white-hot fury?

And Mr. Rubio isn’t even the leader.  Donald Trump is far ahead.  Why not target him?  Ted Cruz is ahead, too.  Ahead of Rubio and miles ahead of Bush.  And, for that matter, what about Hillary and Comrade Bernie?

Mr. Bush’s “Right to Rise” ads are actually quite embarrassing.  And, to put it mildly, they’re not making a very positive impression.  Not on me, anyway.
