The passing of Justice Antonin Scalia is very bad news for America and horrible news, I think, for conservatism and the cause of limited government — which, in the age of Clinton Inc., Comrade Bernie, and Trumpism, scarcely need more bad news.

It’s extremely unlikely that President Obama will hold off, or be blocked, from nominating yet another left-leaning justice during the nearly twelve months that remain in his unfortunate presidency.  And this newly-minted Obama nominee will replace one of the most brilliant, articulate, and reliable conservatives ever to have graced the bench.  Another liberal justice on SCOTUS, in fact, will mark a dramatic lurch to the left that will persist, potentially, for decades.  (September of this year would have marked thirty years of service for Justice Scalia on the high court.)

Elections have consequences, and the national and international consequences of Barack Obama will continue for a very, very long time to come.
