“Online trolls are psychopaths and sadists, psychologists claim”

For understandable reasons, most internet trolls prefer to remain anonymous and seldom go out in public.  (Image from Wikimedia Commons)

Somebody called my attention to this article yesterday, I think, and I’m sorry, but I failed to make a note of who it was.  Thanks to him or her, in any case:

My personal experience tallies with what the article reports.  I no longer attempt conversation with such folks.  I stopped participating at certain sites because it was simply pointless and frustrating to do so.  Also, like most sane people I won’t comment on religion-related threads at the Salt Lake Tribune, and I don’t tolerate trollish behavior when it appears in the comments on this blog or on my Facebook page.  Even after many years, the hostility and hatred that some routinely express online (and in anonymous emails) fascinates and appalls me.
