One of things that I hate most, one of the things that I’ve hated most about the 2016 presidential election, is the ever-increasing tendency to turn political disagreement into a Manichaean battle between light and darkness, a struggle of Good (us) versus Bad (them).

 

I despise and reject the urge to demonize those who differ politically, to “unfriend them,” to pronounce them traitors, to regard them as guilty of sin and worthy of excommunication or incarceration.  I hate it on the Left and, if possible, I hate it even more on the Right, where I myself live.  Here’s a really good example of the phenomenon:

As some may have noticed, I opposed Donald Trump’s campaign to acquire the presidency.  (I also opposed the efforts of Clinton Inc.)  But this goes much, much too far.
