I think that this analysis is on target.  Donald Trump was an eminently beatable candidate:

Of course, a very large share of the blame must go to Hillary Clinton herself.  Few if any other serious Democratic presidential contenders would have lost the 2016 election.  Here’s an article — please pardon the obnoxious opening sentence — that I also think basically sound.  I like one of the titles that it appears under:

 

“Dear Hillary:  You’re to Blame for Losing.  Now Go Away.”

 

What might have been (but, fortunately, isn’t)!

 

My position has long been that Trump didn’t win.  Rather, Hillary lost.  And neither was worthy of the presidency.  I was disappointed in the election long before it happened.  Fortunately, Mr. Trump seems to have gathered several grown-ups around him — long may he golf! — and I’m cautiously optimistic that some good will be done.  Justice Gorsuch is certainly happy news.
