During the academic year, Stephen Smoot is currently pursuing Egyptological studies at the University of Toronto, not far from Canada’s National Igloo, shown here in this Wikimedia Commons public domain image.

 

I share this item not only because of its intrinsic interest but because I think it could prove useful to Mr. Stephen Smoot as the time approaches for him to resume his hopeless and despairing exile in the frozen north to return under compulsion to his useless studies in Egyptology at the University of Toronto.

Mr. Smoot survived his first year, obviously.  But there’s no guarantee that his luck will hold out through a second year — and, anyway, survival shouldn’t be a matter of luck but, rather a result of skill and preparation:
