Still cautiously looking to October

Still cautiously looking to October May 5, 2020

Joseph Smith Sr., farmer of the Genesee, and his family.
One of the collateral benefits of the work that we’ve done on the Interpreter Foundation’s “Witnesses” film project was a relatively brief terrestrial reunion of the Joseph Smith Sr. family, shown here in a still photograph taken on the movie set by James Jordan.  “Social distancing” was little practiced in the late 1820s.

There are a couple of newly posted items on the Interpreter Foundation’s website that you might care to check out.  And, of course, they are available to you at no charge.  This is, after all, what Interpreter does.  But, beyond the devoted efforts of volunteers, we rely upon the kindness of generous donors to be able to do it:

Audio Roundtable: Come, Follow Me Book of Mormon Lesson 19 We Have Entered into a Covenant with Him: Mosiah 18-24

The panelists for the Interpreter Radio Roundtable for Come, Follow Me Book of Mormon Lesson 19, We Have Entered into a Covenant with Him, on Mosiah 18-24 were Terry Hutchinson, John Gee, and Kevin Christensen. The roundtable has been extracted from the 12 April 2020 broadcast of the Interpreter Radio Show, which can be heard in its entirety at https://interpreterfoundation.org/interpreter-radio-show-april-12-2020/.  Both the complete show and its extracted roundtable have been shorn of commercial and other interruptions for your listening pleasure.

Some have wondered what the future of the Interpreter Foundation’s Witnesses film project might be.  Well, we’re wondering, too.  We were on track for an October 2020 premiere in theaters and, in most ways, we still are.  Work continues.  But a greater power than we can contradict may yet thwart our intents.  We still needed to do just a little bit of small, supplemental filming, for instance, and the coronavirus has made that, and many other things in life, considerably more difficult.  Not surprisingly, though, the much more fundamental problem is this:  If movie theaters simply aren’t open by October 2020, which remains a distinct possibility, we obviously won’t debut our theatrical film in movie theaters in October 2020.  We are working with a professional distributor, and he’s the expert on theatrical releases.  But this pandemic represents completely uncharted waters for him, and for us, and not just for Witnesses but for Hollywood and the movie industry worldwide.  Will we release Witnesses on DVD?  Maybe.  We’re quite determined to see it in theaters first, though.  We’re monitoring things hopefully.
