I’m absolutely in favor of trying to help the poor and to alleviate hunger, but I confess that this ad, which I’ve seen dozens of times on Fox News, really irritates me.
Why?
Because it falsely suggests that Israel’s economy, which is advanced, sophisticated, varied, and booming, is so poor that starvation is a major threat to the nation’s people. And because of its deliberately tear-jerking, manipulative style.
There are many places around the world where masses of people really are hungry and really do face starvation.
Israel isn’t one of those places.
And it’s supported by the notably affluent international Jewish community, which gives large sums in philanthropic donations, and by U.S. foreign aid (of which it is the top recipient).
The population of Israel isn’t starving. Not by a long shot.
