Idlib backs right up against a southward-jutting promontory of Turkish territory, not far from the distinctive Gulf of Alexandretta. I’ve never been there, but I’ve flown over it.
The video is just a bit over one minute long:
Google “Idlib Syria bombing,” and you’ll understand. The province of Idlib, located in the northwest corner of Syria, is held by anti-government rebels who aren’t allied with ISIS, so it’s been the focus of incendiary thermite bombing by Vladimir Putin’s airplanes as well the victim of suicide bombings by Islamists. Back in July, a provincial maternity hospital was targeted by joint Russian/Syrian air strikes. (I’ll resist the urge to cite examples of Mr. Trump’s declared admiration for Mr. Putin or to suggest that he’s making Syria great again.)
I offer this not to score any particular political point, but as a matter of human interest.
