Accountability

Accountability September 21, 2008

Seated next to the very real (as opposed to the cyber-guy) Marcus Goodyear at the 2008 GodBlog conference, we were listening to the keynote address by Tall Skinny Kiwi, Andrew Jones. (See the presentation here). This kind of philosphical-theologcial-practical discussion makes me excited for GodBlog Conference 2009!

While Jones spoke on a number of subjects concerning the emerging church and the Internet, one in particular struck us – accountability. In the Wild West World Wide Web, it seems that anyone with an opinion becomes authority. All you need is a computer and a connection and you are a subject matter “expert.”

That’s why the biblical model of accountability is important. We need to keep each other honest. We need to keep each other on track. We need to surround each other in community, prodding toward truth, snatching from the fire and in love, create friendships across the miles.

Accountabilty in life is important – at work, at home, at school. We all need to be surrounded by a “cloud of witnesses” both past and present.

Do you bristle at accountability? Or do you embrace it?

Please, share with a friend if you feel moved.
