Spit on my eyes – Part 2

Spit on my eyes – Part 2 May 2, 2008

Our world is increasingly hostile to faith. Christians are marginalized at every turn. Our not-of-this-world ways are dismissed. We are mocked at every turn. Whether it’s big media or at your workplace, we are seen as out of touch.

Ben Stein – who is Jewish, by the way – stars in a movie, Expelled, previously mentioned last week in this space. The film simply documents how honest intellectually inquiry isn’t given consideration in the hyper-polarized academia. In this interesting documentary, he shows intellectual bigotry in black and white. The move isn’t meant to prove intelligent design. Instead, it shows how those of differing views are marginalized and the gaps in Darwinist thought are simply brushed aside.

The L.A. Times says this, “As a work of nonfiction filmmaking it is a sham and as agitprop it is too flimsy to strike any serious blows.” In other words, the review simply supports the premise of the film — dismiss out of hand any discussion of anything that might deflate a carefully constructed world without God.

Let me get this straight. We can’t even talk about the things we disagree about?

The Pope came to America last month, and more media stories are published about old priest child abuse cases than the fact that he is the spiritual leader of a billion people. And there were plenty of jokes about abstince, big families and Friday fish. Ha-ha. In our nation we cannot talk about the holes in the faith of a Muslim or an American Indian or a Sikh – but Catholics and Christians and Mormons are fair game.

What am I not seeing here? It looks like the world despises people of serious faith – and there is no redeeming value for people of our kind. “Here,” says Jesus, “put these on.”

“You will be hated by all because of My name, but the one who endures to the end, he will be saved.” — Mark 13:13

And again ..

“Dear friends, do not be surprised at the painful trial you are suffering, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice … If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed… if you suffer as a Christian, do not be ashamed, but praise God that you bear that name. For it is time for judgment to begin with the family of God…” 1 Peter 4

Now I see better.

Lord, spit on our eyes so we can see Your ways!

Please, share with a friend if you feel moved.
