A couple months ago, I got an email inviting me to hear parts of a new CD from the only Catholic boys school choir in the United States. That piqued my curiosity. Hearing the selections clinched it for me. What I heard was a little slice of heaven on earth.
The CD, “Christmas at Harvard Square,” by the St. Paul’s Choir School in Massachusetts, is breathtakingly good. I ordered this back in October and my wife has been listening to it ever since. (Christmas came early this year at the Kandra household…) The voices are angelic, and the music practically perfect. The selections, from “O Come All Ye Faithful” and “Once in Royal David’s City” (a personal favorite here at The Bench) to “Still, Still, Still” and “Angels We Have Heard on High” is ideal for playing in the background while wrapping gifts, addressing Christmas cards or just dreaming of a bright promise about to be born.
You can hear selections and order CDs at this link. You just don’t hear singing like this very much anymore.
But check out this video, describing the choir and its history.
