Would you like to work for the pope? July 16, 2018

Some of us already do.

But here’s an extraordinary opportunity for the upcoming World Meeting of Families:

With just six weeks to go to the World Meeting of Families 2018 in Dublin from 21 – 26 August, we are opening up a new opportunity for those who have availability to volunteer for one day for WMOF2018. We are asking for Volunteer Papal Mass Stewards  and Holy Communion Team volunteers for the Closing Mass of WMOF2018 which will take place in the Phoenix Park on Sunday 26th August.

Among the volunteer opportunities: Papal Steward. What’s that? Read on:

Who can volunteer for this particular role?
Anyone over the age of 18 can volunteer as a Papal Mass Steward.  Young people aged 16-17 years can also volunteer if they do so as part of a group, with one adult leader per group and a ratio of at least one responsible adult to every 10 under-18s within the group.

What role will I have at the Mass?
As a volunteer steward, you will be helping WMOF2018 to move up to 600,000 people into the park, around the park and then back out of the park after the Mass has ended. Working in two-hour shifts, you will be providing directional support to people from over 110 countries as they come into and depart from the Phoenix Park.

Will I have to have training?
Yes, there will be a training provided over one session with some further follow up venue-specific training closer to the event.

You can also help distribute communion:

We are seeking the generous help of around 4,000 ministers of Holy Communion to volunteer for one day to be Christ’s disciples helping to give the Bread of Life to the people at this historic Papal Mass. This is open to any of those who are already trained and assisting with the distribution of Holy Communion in their own parishes. We are looking for the help of lay people, priests, deacons and religious Ministers of Holy Communion.

Those volunteering need to be already trained and functioning ministers of Holy Communion in your own parish community. You will need to be steady on your feet. Although there will be some plastic tracking laid down, much of the distribution will be done in the grassy corrals of the Phoenix Park Papal Mass site. You will need to be garda vetted for this event, even though you have been vetted for this ministry in your own parish. [If you are already Garda vetted for WMOF2018, that suffices.]
