STOP RESISTING A REST

I have tried all these methods, but I confess I often resist creating a Sabbath for myself. I fear I’ll get antsy or bored, even depressed, with all that wide-open time.

What happens when you are alone without distractions?

If you can’t become still, go within and notice what you are thinking. What do you say to yourself in quiet times, maybe before sleep, or when you’re idle, even briefly? What’s the self-talk?

If you have any fears about what you’ll find, it’s tempting to keep working, to turn on the television, to fill the empty space somehow.

But Sabbath is more than staring at the wall. Your time can be structured, and your mind can be engaged, just not on the ordinary things of life.
