We need to talk to each other. Not on social media, and not just with people who agree with us.
For me, one of the most stunning revelations of this week came yesterday, when Obama and Trump met for the first time. That means that all the years of birther controversy, all the campaign trail insults back and forth (and, yes, they came from both sides) were based on having never met each other at all.
This is how we get into wars. We make the enemy less than human, which is a lot easier if we’ve never seen them face to face.
So here’s what I’ve learned—and continue learning every day: Ask real questions. Then stay as neutral as possible so you can hear the answers.
As A Course in Miracles says: “You have no idea of the tremendous release and deep peace that comes from meeting yourself and your brothers totally without judgment.” Because it’s a place of deep peace, it’s also a place of great power.
