There are forces at work that we can’t see.

Some things happen for a bigger reason, and not one we’re privy to. Years ago, I applied for a public relations part-time job. I wasn’t especially qualified for the position—a fact that, contrary to interview etiquette, I pointed out to my prospective employer.

But from the minute I walked into the interview, I knew I had the job. There was some unseen force involved. It didn’t make any logical sense, but I knew I could have totally bombed in the interview, and I still would have gotten the position. As it turned out, I ended up working with a very unhappy man, and I left a year later. But I’m still friends with people I met during those few months. Maybe the company needed my quality of energy. Maybe I needed theirs. Maybe the reason I was there had nothing to do with the job itself.

So, when Donald Trump boasted that he could have stood in the middle of 5th Avenue and shot someone, and he wouldn’t have lost any votes, I believe he was right. There’s a reason he’s in this position, and not just because he got more than 270 electoral votes.

We may not have the bigger picture, but we can still trust that everything—ultimately—has a purpose and is working for good.
