Native American history is an integral part of the America we know today. In 1990, President George H. W. Bush approved a joint resolution designating November as “National American Indian Heritage Month.” More than two decades later, the holiday now most popularly referred to as “Native American Heritage Month” is celebrated nationwide.

This year, President Obama has issued a proclamation for November 27, 2015 to officially be Native American Heritage Day. In the same proclamation, President Obama stresses the incredible impact Native Americans and their ancestors have on the nation, “Native Americans have helped make America what it is today…. This month, let us reaffirm our responsibility to ensure each generation is defined by a greater sense of opportunity than the last, and let us pledge to maintain our strong relationship with tribal nations across America.”

Native American Heritage Month celebrates the culture, history, impact and holidays of Native Americans past and present. All November, Deily will join in on the celebration with content about Native American religious beliefs and traditions.
