At least 200 hardcore terrorists have been killed, and major terror camps and communication centres of at least three terror groups have been fully destroyed. This is according to the most authoritative assessment of the impact of the quake on Kashmir terror groups.
The quake has dramatically reduced the number of trained terrorists available for Kashmir jehad and its impact would be felt for sometime to come, say intelligence and security assessments accessed by DNA.
But that is no assurance on the quantum of violence coming down, warn senior officials.
“The surviving terrorists in fact could step up violence,” they warn.
At any point of time a few hundred trained terrorists are available for Kashmir jehad, according to various estimates. So even if a few hundred of them are killed, a few hundred are left to strike.
Indian agencies believe that the United Jehad Council’s offer of a ceasefire in the earthquake-affected parts of Kashmir Valley may well be forced out of compulsions created by the devastating earthquake.
“They don’t have many cadres ready to fight in those areas, many have been killed and everyone has been affected. That is why New Delhi has not even responded to the truce announcement,
