"Hinduism" and the HIndutva forces

This was one of my post on Intentblog… I liked it so I am reproducing it for you:

I do NOT believe that there is ANYTHING called Hinduism in the original sense. Yes, if we look through the glasses that we have been imparted over so many years thru Mughal and British rules and Western thought.. we have one now.

“Hinduism”‘s greatest strength was its independence of thought. I can love Jesus, Buddha and Krishna.. and still be “Hindu”.

In my opinion Vedantic thought was the pinnacle of any spiritual thought and to-date it remains as such. The reason why, I think, it reached that height was because ANYONE could contribute to its ascent and not “dwarf” it by his/her own contribution (by creating packages of “truth” called religions within it.)

The Sages then had the humility to refer to each other and to look up to each other and learn. No one had “the formula”.. no one could .. and they understood that!

What Hindutva forces are doing is something that 700 years of Muslim and Western enculturation could not achieve! They are packaging “Hinduism”!

That just makes the “Hindu” (if you use that as synonymous to poor man’s Vedantic thought) weaker!

For when you are limited you can be weaned away to another limited existence.. but when you are free to love any.. you would HATE to be limited! That is my retort to the “Hindutva” guys arguing against conversions.

Of course, having said that, I would also say – that I have very low opinion of an argument where “COnversion” and “God” are mentioned in the same sentence.. for if there IS ONLY ONE.. then WHOM are you CONVERTING from WHOM to WHOM??

It is the tribal form of religion where more numbers means a “better God”! Little realizing that the “God” that a person has been fighting to convert for .. .. has already been “de-God”-ed!!
