– Twin Blasts in Karachi

Another attack on the masses in the Muslim world… right after Jordan.. things are just getting too messy!

A powerful blast outside an American fast food restaurant killed 2 people and wounded at least 15 others in the southern port city of Karachi this morning, police officials said.

Six of the wounded are in serious condition, local media reported.

The attack occurred about 8:40 a.m. near a KFC outlet in the upscale Saddar neighborhood of Karachi. The neighborhood consists of banks, international hotels and restaurants. People were heading to work during the morning rush hour at the time.

Karachi, Pakistan’s largest city, has been racked by sectarian and militant attacks in recent years, and KFC and McDonald’s outlets have been targeted frequently. The restaurants are seen as potent symbols of American commercial interests.

Rauf Siddiqi, the provincial home minister, called the bombing a “terrorist act”.

The attack occurred one day after a delegation of American officials and corporate leaders met with Pakistan’s president, Gen. Pervez Musharraf, to assess ways for extending support to Pakistan in the wake of the devastating earthquake of Oct. 8.
